Baldness in Cats (Alopecia)

Having a cat that is genuinely bald is quite a rare occurence, usually being caused by some for of skin disorder like eczema or the presense of parasites or ticks. A less common cause is hypothyroidism (myxoedema) where there is a reduction in the production of hormones from the thyroid gland. Patchy hair should be checked out by a veterinarian surgeon so that the underlying caused can be established and treated.
