Bladder Worm

A bladder worm is a species of parasitic worm that affects cats in Australia and generally infects the urinary tract. The life cycle of the bladder worm form cats is currently unknown and it could involve an intermediary host or it can be direct.

The female worms are about two and a half inches in length  and the males are about half as long, and can be found when operated on however are more usually found in urine (if thats your thing)

Treatment of cat bladder worms

There is currently no treatment for feline bladder worms however an oral dose of 0.1 mg/lb. of ivermectin has been suggested.

The worms themselves are very susceptible to drying so if found then it might be beneficial to remove your cat from an area where it might travel on grass, like concrete so the worms cannot get moisture.
