Abdominal Pain in Cats

Abdominal pain in cats often arises from a variety of different causes from the very mild to the very severe  The pain could be a symptom of an illness such as a blocked intestine, digestive upset, furballs or other foreign bodies that it has swallowed. You cat may show signs of pain and discomfort and will likely not wish to be handled in any way and will likely cry out if handled or if any attempt is made to lift it. It may may disinterested in food or what is going on around it, lie down more than usual, refuse food and even carry out normal activities like grooming. A warm bottle of water (hot water bottle, not to drink) could provide some comfort but the cat shouldbe taken to your vets immediately for examinations and treatment.  It is possible that surgery will be needed to correct the problem so food and water should not be given in just in case.

Ascites (free fluid in the abdomen)
Bloat/Gastric Dilatation & Volvulus
Constipation (mostly in cats)
Gastrointestinal Foreign Body Obstruction
Pancreatitis
Urinary Blockage
